Students report breakthroughs in their sound, their ability to phrase with feeling, their sense of agility, and their ability to learn music quickly. This approach also effectively addresses performance injury issues. The institute accepts pianists of all levels: concert artists, studio teachers, students and amateurs. Each day includes a Feldenkrais Awareness Through Movement lesson, individual piano lessons (observed by all unless otherwise requested), and a lecture on aspects of technique such as the hand’s arches, the thumb, rotation, arm weight, octaves and chords, elasticity, phrasing and rhythmic inflection. The Alan Fraser Piano Institute will take your playing and teaching to the next level on the fine Steinway pianos of Clevland State University, the University of Massachusetts, Browning Arts Center at Weber State University, Concord Community Music School, Anderson-Werkman Performing Arts Center of Hope College, and Split, Croatia.
